More than a handful of spring dramas have premiered last week.

Fuji TV unveiled both of their Tuesday prime time dramas on the same date and both of them began with a mediocre start. Neither ‘Kamo, Kyoto e Iku.‘ – starring Matsushita Nao – nor ‘Kasuka na Kanojo‘ – starring Katori Shingo, were able to impress with great ratings. The other networks were still busy airing variety specials, so the viewers were evenly spread across them. Both dramas at least managed to stay above the 10% mark with their premieres.

On Wednesday, NTV aired the special drama ‘ST Keishicho Kagaku Tokuso Han‘ starring Fujiwara Tatsuya, Okada Masaki, and Shida Mirai. The eccentric bunch of detectives recorded a rating of 10.5%. TV Tokyo also aired the first episode of their midnight food-porn detective drama ‘Meshibana Deka Tachibana‘ starring Sato Jiro. As usual, ratings are hard to come by for this network these days.

The spring premieres continued on Thursday with the first episode of ‘Last Cinderella‘ (Fuji TV) – starring Shinohara Ryoko, Miura Haruma, and Fujiki Naohito, which was among the better starts with a good rating of 13.3%. However, did the first episode offer enough to make the viewers tune in again this week?

Surprisingly Takei Emi still hasn’t reached the point where the viewers in Japan feel overly exposed to her image. Her new drama ‘Otenki Oneesan‘ (TV Asahi) still sparked a lot of curiosity and helped it to record a decent rating of 11.9% in its 11:00pm time slot on Friday. It’s the best start in this time slot since the ‘Hagane no Onna‘ (12.7%) in spring 2010.

Meanwhile, TV Tokyo added more eye candy to their late-night line-up. The lewd drama ‘Minna! Esper Dayo!‘ – starring Sometani Shota, Kaho, and Mano Erina – shows how useful telekinesis can be, although the protagonist himself was only got gifted with telepathy. Definitely an intriguing venture into the TV drama world by famed movie director Sono Shion. The other drama, ‘Vampire Heaven‘ – starring Omasa Aya, Honda Tsubasa, Hiraoka Yuta – is quite an adorable show with two clumsy blood-loving protagonists.

NHK’s mini drama ‘Goen Hunter‘ flopped on Saturday despite starring popular actress Mizuki Alisa. It only recorded a rating of 4.4%. The premiere of ‘35 Sai no Koukousei‘ (NTV) did much better with 14.7%, but nothing less was expected by the rating queen Yonekura Ryoko. The special episode of ‘Legal High‘ (Fuji TV) – starring Sakai Masato and Aragaki Yui – also did well with 13.5%. Furthermore Fuji TV can be satisfied with the first episode of ‘Machigawarechatta Otoko‘ – starring Furuta Arata and Nakamaru Yuichi – which recorded a good rating of 8.8% in its 11:00pm time slot.

On Sunday, ‘Sora Tobu Kouhoushitsu‘ (TBS) – starring Aragaki Yui, Ayano Go, and Shibata Kyouhei – managed to attract plenty of viewers for a good rating of 14.0%. Of course it cannot compete with some of those epic dramas that pushed this time slot to ratings of 20% and higher, but maybe it can still maintain a pretty good level now that Fuji TV has decided to stay away from dramas on Sunday.

(NTV is the only network that still discloses all of their ratings on a daily base. If anything, the other networks only reveal the ratings for their dramas regularly.)
